What To Expect Your First Time
When you walk in the front doors of our church there’ll be someone there to greet you and direct you to the nursery, washrooms, coat rack or whatever else you need help finding. Help yourself to coffee or tea at the window in the foyer. Mingle in the foyer or head to the auditorium for some reflective music that is intended to get us in a worshipful space mentally and emotionally. Our auditorium doors are straight ahead where an usher will hand you a program with information about things that are happening at Avon. You can sit anywhere you like, although we do have special seating to the left for families with young children.
A typical gathering is an hour long.
We usually begin with some worship music. After a song or two, someone will read a short Bible passage and lead us in prayer. This person could be five years old, ninety-five years old or anywhere in between. The only thing for sure is it will be a different person each week - we like to create opportunities for everyone to help lead our Sunday morning worship gatherings. After a few more songs we take an offering. This is an opportunity for people to contribute financially to the ministry of Avon and the work we do in our city and with our partners around the world.
After the offering someone else (a different person every week) gets up and reads another short Bible passage. Then our pastor (or guest speaker) gives a message for about twenty-five minutes. After the message we take two minutes for silent reflection / prayer and then sing a closing song. Finally, someone else (again, someone different every week) sends us out with a brief blessing to conclude our gathering.
Afterwards people are invited to stay for coffee. We'd love for you to stick around for a bit – this is where chat and get to know each other. From 10:45am to 11:45am we have Sunday School (Christian education) classes for all ages.
